About Norma

Norma for GUD blog
If you’re curious as to why someone would give up weight loss dieting (or slimming, as the British say,) you’ve come to the right place. I dieted my whole adult life until April of 2009 when I read that scientists concluded from new research that weight loss diets don’t work.  Well duh, I could have told them that.  (Yes, I’d read similar studies years ago but didn’t trust them!)

Anyway, this time I threw out the diet books and the scale and got rid of clothes that didn’t fit.  I don’t pretend to know what I’m doing, but according to the Intuitive Eating / Natural Eating movement, I’ll eventually learn to recognize and listen to my body’s hunger signals.  That’s one reason I’m writing this blog. The other, more important reason, is so that I can connect with you, my readers. I hope you’ll let me know what you’re learning about eating and dieting, too. As someone once said, “Together, we’re better.”

Thanks in advance for reading and for giving feedback!

Sincerely,
Norma Nill

I have half given up a few times…half because it’s half hearted and I return to the diets again..and again..and again 😦

I am giving up again…as of 10 minutes ago. I am 40 this year…I have dieted for half my life and am heavier than when I started.

I am not going back to the dark side!

Really looking forward to reading through this blog 🙂

I know what you mean about trying diet after diet, Sharon. Like you, I still struggle against going on a new one, especially when I hear a dieting success story from a friend or family member, But then I remember all the “gained-it-back-and-more” stories that reflect 95% of us! Thanks for reading my blog. I’ll be looking forward to hearing what you’re learning from the Not Dieting journey. Isn’t it freeing? 🙂

What a delight it is to find your blog! I am a lifetime dieter and so very sick of it! As of yesterday, I have laid down the weapons I’ve used to torture myself (scales, measuring cups, food diaries, etc) I look forward to learning more about myself on this journey and hopefully become a more healthy me. Thanks for your blog! It’s a great encouragement! ~Erika

Nice to get your comments, Erika! I still find myself looking at diet books sometimes, but then I remember all the times I went to bed hungry and, as you said, tortured myself. It really is liberating to choose for ourselves what to eat. Let me know how it goes.
